Our Presidential Sponsor is Dr. Marion Terenzio
Dr. Marion Terenzio became the 12th president of the State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill on July 1, 2015. Prior to this appointment, she was Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty at Bloomfield College in New Jersey and professor at The Sage Colleges in New York where she also served as Vice President for Campus Life. Dr. Terenzio holds a Ph.D. in Community Psychology from Michigan State University. She received a Master’s Degree in Music Therapy from Texas Women’s University, and a second Master’s in Community Psychology from The Sage Colleges. Her Bachelor’s Degree is in Music from Vassar College.
President Terenzio has received numerous awards for her work emphasizing shared governance as a decision and leadership model in efforts to create a thriving campus community and to revitalize the role of higher education as an economic driver and as a partner in enhancing the quality of life for surrounding communities. She currently serves on the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council, Board of Directors for the Bassett Healthcare Network, and the Mohawk Valley Economic Development Council. She is a member of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Task Force on College and Industry Partnerships and is the chair of the AASCU National Committee on Economic Development. She is a member of AASCU’s Task Force on Community Partnerships and a contributing author on the recently release white paper, titled Making Partnerships Work: Principles, Guidelines, and Advice for Public University Leaders (Findings from the AASCU Taskforce on University Partnerships).
Throughout her career in higher education, Dr. Terenzio led the successful downtown revitalization plans and including K-12 partnerships. She served on and consulted with national organizations such as the College Board and The Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP). Dr. Terenzio has published and presented at numerous venues, including the United Nations, on the role of effective higher education practices in community well-being and economic revitalization and sustainability. She created the Institute for Rural Vitality at SUNY Cobleskill; a model program that has been supported by the US Department of Agriculture, and receiving national attention for its unique approach connecting higher education to economic development, community well-being and sustainability.
