2020 State Conference

WOMEN IN HIGHER EDUCATION:
NEXT LEVEL LEADERSHIP

April 2-3, 2020

CANCELLED

Dear NYSACE Network Conference Attendees and Invited Guests:

It is with deep regret that we write to inform you that the Executive Board met this morning and we are canceling the New York State ACE Women’s Network 2020 Annual Conference, in Cooperstown, New York scheduled for April 2nd and 3rd due to the ongoing and growing threat posed by the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Our first priority is the safety and well-being of our attendees. We have been in touch with the conference venue, the Otesga Resort and are currently in discussion about a later conference date. We will be sending out another communication in the upcoming week that will inform you about options available for conference fee refunds or credits towards a future date.  Please contact the hotel directly if you have scheduled an overnight stay, to cancel your reservation for the April Conference. This was a hard decision and while we were looking forward to hearing from Dr. Merryl Tisch and Dr. Carolyn Stefanco, we concluded that the best thing, indeed, the only thing we could do at this point is to cancel April.

State Conference Description

Our conference will kick off on April 2nd at 5pm for a networking reception followed by a buffet dinner.  If interested, make sure you register for both conference and dinner.

Catalyst Award

The NYS ACE Women’s Network Catalyst Award is awarded on an annual basis to a woman leader in higher education who supports and furthers the careers of women leaders in higher education in New York State.

The Catalyst award winner: exemplifies the mission of ACE/National Network of Women Leaders; dedicates herself to higher education by serving her students, colleagues, and institution generously; demonstrates a personal commitment to professional growth and enrichment; unselfishly gives her time and energy in assisting other women in their professional development as a mentor and role model; and advances and promotes higher education through collaborative efforts across disciplines in academics, government, and business communities.

We don’t always take the time to say thank you to the people who have supported and encouraged us. This award is a wonderful opportunity to let those people know that they’ve made a tremendous difference to our lives  and maybe even inspired us.

Nominations close at the end of the business day Friday, March 6, 2020!

Download the Nomination Form (including information on how to submit)!

Our keynote speaker will be Carolyn J. Stefanco

Dr. Carolyn J. Stefanco is the 11th president of The College of Saint Rose, in Albany, New York. She joined the College after serving as vice president for academic affairs at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia; as the founding dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at California State University, Stanislaus; as a tenured professor, history department chair, and women’s studies program director at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly); and as assistant professor at Wheaton College (MA). Dr. Stefanco earned a Ph.D. in history from Duke University, an M.A. in women’s history from Binghamton University, and a B.A. in history and a women’s studies certificate from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Her experiences growing up in an immigrant neighborhood in northern New Jersey continue to fuel her passion for global connectedness. Dr. Stefanco was a Senior Fulbright Scholar to the University of Zagreb in Croatia; served as resident director of a London Study Program; created programs for student exchange and faculty research in Honduras, Brazil, Portugal, and Croatia; and worked as a higher education consultant for Saudi Arabia. She is chair of the board of trustees of the American University in Bulgaria, and a member of the board of directors of the International Leadership Association.

She participates at the national level in many higher education associations, including the American Council on Education and the Council of Independent Colleges, and she was recently elected to the board of directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.

In the Capital Region of New York, she is a director of Albany Medical Center, an executive board member of Hearst’s Women@Work, and a member of the board of directors for the Center for Economic Growth, where she chairs the work group on Interactive Technology.

As a first-generation college student, Dr. Stefanco is a lifelong advocate for student success. Saint Rose has invested in numerous mentoring and leadership programs for students, and has launched ten new degrees in the past three years, including music performance and cybersecurity at the undergraduate level, and business analytics, computer science, and social work at the graduate level. For her visionary leadership, Dr. Stefanco was recently awarded a Helen Gurley Brown Genius Grant, and the College was invited to join the BOLD Women’s Leadership Network and given a grant of $1.1 million to benefit women student leaders.
