State Conference Description

As we know, this year has been filled with blessings as well as challenges in the world of higher education and beyond.  Our Board of Directors, along with our Presidential Sponsor, Dr. Margaret Drugovich, President of Hartwick College has been working diligently to design this year’s conference which speaks to all women in higher education. We believe that the conversations we have between and among each other can be the most purposeful, meaningful and impactful way to make a difference for our future.  But are we really honoring the diversity of those conversations and each other?

Our conference will kick off on April 5th at 5pm for a networking reception followed by a buffet dinner.  If interested, make sure you register for both conference and dinner.  Friday we will begin with an optional session of mindfulness at 7am, led by Dr. Kathy Merget, NYS Chair and Certified Health Coach.

(please see the conference schedule for complete details on events and times)

Our keynote speaker will be Maren Showkeir

Maren Showkeir is an author and consultant who has worked with organizations of all types and sizes to increase business results through authentic conversations and creating cultures of accountability. She spent the first part of her career as a newspaper journalist, working as a reporter, editor and senior manager in newsrooms at major dailies in Arizona and Florida. She also taught journalism at private universities in Argentina and Peru as a fellow for the Knight Foundation. Her 25 years of experience in writing, managing, and teaching provided rich material for the book Authentic Conversations: Moving from Manipulation to Truth and Commitment (Berrett-Koehler, 2008), which she co-authored with her late husband, Jamie. They also co-authored Yoga Wisdom at Work: Finding Sanity Off the Mat and On the Job (Berrett-Koehler, 2013.) She has been a media source for dozens of leading print and online publications, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Chicago Tribune, Investor’s Business Daily, Huffington Post, Women for Hire, Forbes and CNNMoney. Maren is also a certified yoga instructor, and enjoys traveling, reading, and music. She lives in Phoenix, AZ, near her two grown children and three perfect grandchildren.

Again this year we are offering attendees the opportunity to sign up for 15 minute sessions throughout the afternoon with a president for advice, feedback and networking.

New this year the NYS ACE Women’s Network Board invites all Institutional Representatives to join us for a pre-conference workshop on Thursday afternoon at 1:30pm.  If you are an IR and would like to attend, please be sure to register for the conference and dinner.
